The International Collection of Child Art is a unique resource housed in the Milner Library, Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois. The collection was initiated in 1969 and now contains over 8,500 pieces of child art from over fifty countries and cultures. It is used by scholars from numerous disciplines to study various aspects of artwork by children and adolescents. Several exhibits of original artwork from the collection are available for loan.
A note from the curator:
"When given the opportunity, children everywhere can enjoy creating pictures of their feelings, thoughts, and dreams. Their artwork obviously is influenced by their individual experiences, their environment, including formal education, and the materials available to them. These conditions vary greatly from one situation to another. You will notice many similarities as well as many differences in the pictures.
This unique collection does not buy or sell artwork. Tax deductible donations and proceeds of exhibit rentals are used to help maintain the collection and to provide art materials for children throughout the world in exchange for donated artwork.
