Standards
for Electronic and Information Technology

The federal government has adopted these standards

Federal sites must comply with the standards by June 21, 2001.

The Trace Research & Development Center
is a part of the College of Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Founded in 1971, Trace has been a pioneer in the field of technology and
disability. They are currently working on ways to make standard information
technologies and telecommunications systems more accessible and usable
by people with disabilities.

Wide Web Consortia)

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) develops
interoperable technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and tools)
to lead the Web to its full potential as a forum for information, commerce,
communication, and collective understanding. One part of W3C is the
WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative).
The Draft of their Guidelines is currently under legislative consideration.
