Database and Article Index Redirection FAQ

Q: I am stuck on a page that says "Redirecting to: http://..." and can go no further. Why?

A: There are a few reasons why this may happen:

  1. Your Internet service Provider or personal firewall may be blocking ports 2048 and/or 2050. When accessing from outside the confines of Milner Library (ie: In your dorm room, from ISU's wireless access, other ISU places, from AOL, Earthlink, MCHSI, et. al.) your access will be authenticated and processed through Milner's proxy server. It is accessed via ports 2048 and 2050; if your personal firewall software or ISP is blocking this port, no access will occur.

  2. The Database or Article Index resource you chose is not answering at the moment. This can occur during periods when either you or your chosen resource are experiencing network slowdowns or other problems.

Q:Why am I looking at a redirect page at all? Can't I just jump right to the Database I chose?

A: The redirecting process itself is a page with a program running underneath. In the interest of making the process transparent, we do display a page while the program works to redirect you to your destination. It also provides valuable information for our systems folks should there be any problems.
